2027-2028 Reconfiguration Information
Beginning with the 2027–2028 school year, Medina City Schools will implement a grade-level reconfiguration approved by the Board of Education on February 25, 2026. A.I. Root will become an Upper Elementary School serving grades 5–6, and Claggett will become a Middle School serving grades 7–8. Students in grades K–4 will not be reassigned as a result of the reconfiguration.
The plan is designed to better align students by academic and social-emotional needs while addressing declining enrollment, changing funding conditions, efficient use of district resources, and long-term stability. Planning and implementation will continue throughout the 2026–2027 school year with input from staff, families, and community stakeholders.
Our Frequently Asked Questions provide additional information about the approved plan, the factors behind the decision, and what families can expect as we prepare for the transition.
