Medina High School Physics Teacher Recipient of 2019 PACE Team Award

On Wednesday, May 8, gifted education coordinator and Fenn gifted intervention specialist, Shayna Samosky and PACE president, Deb Chester presented the annual PACE Team Award during the high school staff meeting.  This year, Doug Smith, Medina High School physics teacher, was the recipient. This award seeks to recognize classroom teachers for their outstanding contribution and investment in students within and beyond the school day.

Mr. Smith is a veteran teacher whose knowledge of his subject matter is second-to-none.  His passion for teaching is evident as he almost daily tells his students, “This is my favorite lesson of the year.”  He has extensive answers for any question and keeps students connected with real-world applications and current events, especially related to space.  His dedication extends beyond the classroom where he runs chess and gaming club. While his classes are challenging, students get the sense that he truly wants them to understand the material and do well.
