Board Members and Officers Sworn In During Organizational Meeting

During the organizational meeting of the Board of Education on Monday, January 6, 2020, Brian Hilberg and Ron Ross were officially sworn into office by Medina City Schools Treasurer David Chambers. This is the first full term for Hilberg and the second four-year term on the Board for Ross. Hilberg is the newest member elected this past November along with Ross. “We are beginning some exciting but challenging times for the Medina City School District. With the passion and dedication that I have already seen from this board, administration, and staff, I'm confident that our District is up to the challenge. Doug Eastwood has passed the baton on to me and I am honored to take the next leg of this race and will work hard for the education and well-being of all of our students,” said Hilberg.

The Board of Education also appointed its new officers for 2020. Valerie Pavlik will serve as president and Rob Skidmore will serve as vice president. Pavlik stated, “Ross's commitment and dedication to the District is exemplary. Not only is he generous with his time, but he has also used his own means to help fund initiatives to provide additional opportunities to our students. His support of Bike to School Week and the recent middle school Veterans' Day essay contest are just two examples. Ron has gone over and above his duties as a school board president. He is an inspiration and an outstanding role model not only for me but for our students and community as well."

Outgoing president Ron Ross added, “For me, it was a fantastic year serving our school district, community, staff, and all of our children enjoying every day as your school board president. The entire staff, together with the board, has worked well with our Superintendent, Mr. Sable, and Treasurer, Mr. Chambers. I am very happy for Mrs. Pavlik and Mr. Skidmore as they continue in 2020 as our newly appointed school board president and vice president. I thank the voters in our community for their support providing me with another four-year term. We have much to discuss and much to look forward to in the coming year as we work to make the Medina City School District one of the best in the state of Ohio. Proud to be a Medina Bee.”

The current Board of Education members are Brian Hilberg, Rebecca Parkhurst, Valerie Pavlik, Ron Ross, and Robert Skidmore.  In addition to their service on the Board, members serve on a number of state, local, Board of Education and District committees. At the state level, they serve as delegates at the Ohio School Board Association’s Annual Meeting. Local committees include the Recreation Center Advisory

Board and the Advisory Commission on Communication Enhancement Support Services (A.C.C.E.S.S.). Board members serve as appointees on the Curriculum and Instruction Committee, Facilities Committee, Finance Committee, Policy Committee, and Business Advisory Committee.
