Medina High School Hosts Engineering Expo

The second Engineering Expo for students and families in grades six through twelve was held on November 17th at the Medina High School media center.  The Engineering Expo is co-sponsored by the Medina County Economic Development Corporation. The evening began with a short presentation from Jacob Knechtel (MHS class of 2013) and Brice Shipe (MHS class of 2017) describing their pathway through high school, the Medina County Career Center, and the University of Akron.

Knechtel graduated with a Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering and is currently employed as a mechanical engineer at Pneumatic Scale Angelus. Shipe is currently completing his studies in Mechanical Engineering Technologies.  Their experiences allowed students to understand the differences between the two careers.

The remainder of the evening allowed students to visit with 19 different Medina County engineers to discover the different aspects of their jobs. Kevin Calmer (MHS class of 2012) who currently works as an aerospace engineer for ZIN Technologies in partnership with NASA Glenn Research Center, was also among the engineers presenting.  In addition to the County engineers, Medina High School’s Industrial Arts and Engineering department gave students a chance to see potential courses for their future elective credits.

Medina High School is planning a Medical and Healthcare evening on Wednesday, February 9, 2022.  Those interested in being a presenter should contact Kathy Breitenbucher, Medina County Economic Development Corporation at kathyb@medinacounty.org.
