Medina High School Shares National Latin Exam Results

On Thursday, March 18, 2022, Medina High School Latin students took the 45th Annual National Latin Exam. The exam is administered internationally in a total of twenty different countries, including such nations as Australia, Belize, Canada, China, France, Germany, Ghana, Italy, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and Zimbabwe.

 

Students can earn various levels of awards based on their achievements on the exam. The questions are selected from multiple curricula and include questions about Latin Grammar, Roman Life, Roman History, Vocabulary/Derivatives, and Reading Comprehension. This year, Medina students brought home 24 awards of Cum Laude or higher. Four additional students attained an Honorable Mention (missing Cum Laude by one point). 

             

Students achieving Gold Summa Cum Laude include Tye Ochendowski (Latin I) and Agnes Rupp (Latin I). Students achieving Silver Maxima Cum Laude include Kayleigh Hummel (Latin I), Emily Johnson (Latin I); Thomas Raklovits (Latin II); Marina Halkiadakis (Latin III), Abigail Hovorka (Latin IV), and Catherine Bechen (Latin IV). Students achieving Magna Cum Laude include Don Tschannen (Latin I), Dominic Adomaites (Latin II), William Kissner (Latin IV), Sydney Kindrat (Latin IV), and Abigail Acurio (Latin IV).  Students achieving Cum Laude include Grace Netherton (Latin I), Hallie Bilek (Latin I); Emma Spanger (Latin II), Marcus Messuti (Latin II), Noah Banner (Latin II), Lydia Dorman (Latin II), Jackson Routzahn (Latin II); Cohen Leonhardt (Latin III), Grace Bechen (Latin III), and Hope Gormley (Latin III). Students receiving an Honorable Mention citation include Curtis Poindexter (Latin I), Isabelle Oehler (Latin II), Zachary Kurt (Latin II), and Kaitlin Horner (Latin III). Students who achieved Gold Summa Cum Laude, Silver Maxima Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, and Cum Laude status will receive certificates and medals.  Students who received Honorable Mention will receive certificates.
