Anne Fortney, Language Arts Teacher, Medina High School, Inclusion Teacher Award 2020-2021

The Inclusion Teacher (IT) Award is given annually to a general education teacher who provides exemplary service to students with disabilities in his or her classroom.  For the 2020-2021 school year, Medina City Schools’ Department of Pupil Services presented the IT Award to Anne Fortney, English Language Arts teacher at Medina High School.  Anne was nominated by Kelly Miller, Intervention Specialist at Medina High School who co-teaches alongside Anne in the classroom.  In her nomination, Kelly describes Anne as welcoming to all, giving each student an equal opportunity to learn.  From Anne’s willingness to help students as well as sharing teaching responsibilities with her co-teacher, Anne is the ideal educator and coworker.  Anne recognizes student strengths and weaknesses and takes the time to individualize her teaching.  She thoughtfully plans lessons that include best practices and rigorous expectations while carefully considering students’ needs.  Anne is described as dedicated, hardworking and supportive.  Anne embodies all of the qualities of an exemplary inclusion teacher.

Thank you, Anne, for your service to the students and staff of Medina City Schools!
