What do I do if I suspect that my child has a disability?

If you have a child, aged 3-5, whom you suspect may have a disability in one or more of the following developmental areas: communication, vision, hearing, motor skills, social emotional/behavioral functioning, self-help skills, and/or cognitive skills, please contact the Helping Hands Preschool office at (330) 636-4400 for instructions on how to pre-register for an evaluation. 

What happens when I call with a concern?

When you call the Helping Hands Preschool, you will be asked some basic information such as child's name, date of birth, address, and what your concerns are.  You will then receive an email with instructions on pre-registering your child.  One of our Preschool Psychologists will also reach out to you to discuss your concerns and set up a visit either in your home, or at the school.

What are Special Education Preschool Services?

Special Education is defined as specially designed instruction, at no cost to the parents, to meet the unique needs of a child with a disability.  Special education is for students who by basis of the severity of their disability and needs, require specially designed instruction in order to progress and benefit from the general education curriculum.

All public school districts are required to locate, identify, evaluate, and provide free and appropriate education to children ages 3-5 years who have been determined to have a disability.  Parents who suspect their preschool child may have a disability should contact the Principal - Heather Mix at (330) 636-4402 or Preschool Secretary - Nancy Myers at (330) 636-4400.
