  • Highlighting Food Service

The school cafeteria is a powerhouse of delicious and nutritious meals, serving up over 436,000 lunches and nearly 68,000 breakfasts last school year alone! It’s more than just a place to eat—it’s a community hub where students refuel with balanced, high-quality meals that help them stay focused and ready to learn.

With a team of 49 dedicated staff membersincluding 8 new hires this year—our cafeteria ensures that every meal is served with care and efficiency. They go beyond the basics, offering a variety of options that meet diverse dietary needs and keep students excited about healthy eating. And it doesn't stop there—our cafeteria also caters to special events and functions, making every gathering a little more delicious.

Plus, as a self-funded department, every dollar goes back into improving services, offering even better food options, and supporting our amazing team. Thanks to federal and state reimbursements, as well as our own sales, we’ve created a sustainable model that keeps our cafeteria thriving without relying on the general fund. It's a perfect blend of fiscal responsibility and delicious meals!

  • Highlighting the Maintenance Department

The Maintenance Department, consisting of 10 employees, is responsible for overseeing the upkeep of the district’s extensive properties. This includes managing 266.38 acres of land and maintaining over 1.17 million square feet of building space. The team supports facilities such as the High School/BOE campus, covering the largest area with 547,563 square feet and significant outdoor space (1,122,025.60 square feet of paving), along with other key sites like Northrop, Fenn, Waite, Garfield, Evolve, Canavan, Claggett, Heritage, and Root. Their work ensures the functionality and safety of these spaces, which collectively serve over 6,700 students across 375 classrooms.

  • Highlighting Transportation

I wanted to take a moment to congratulate Brenda Arthur on completing her first year as the head of transportation for Medina City School District. It's been quite a journey since you took over from Rob Travis, who had been a cornerstone of the district for three decades.

From what I've observed, you've done an absolutely outstanding job since stepping into this role. Taking over from someone with such an extensive tenure is no small feat, but you've handled it with grace, determination, and a real knack for leadership. It's clear to everyone that you've brought fresh energy and innovative ideas to the department.

Your dedication to ensuring the smooth operation of transportation services has not gone unnoticed. Whether it's coordinating routes, managing logistics, or addressing the various challenges that arise in this field, you've shown a remarkable ability to keep things running smoothly. Your commitment to the safety and well-being of the students and staff in our district is truly commendable.

I've heard nothing but positive feedback about the changes and improvements you've implemented. Your proactive approach and willingness to listen to feedback have been instrumental in creating a more efficient and effective transportation system. It's evident that you genuinely care about the community and are always striving to provide the best service possible.

In just one year, you've made a significant impact, and I have no doubt that you will continue to do so in the years to come. Your leadership has been a breath of fresh air, and I am confident that under your guidance, the transportation department will only continue to thrive.

Once again, congratulations on this milestone, Brenda. Your hard work and dedication have not gone unnoticed, and I look forward to seeing the continued success of the transportation department under your leadership.
